Big Quartzsite Gold Mine Coming to Auction Block

Big Quartzsite Gold Mine Coming to Auction Block

RVers who’ve traveled out to the little community of Rainbow Acres near Quartzsite have all seen it. It’s a little dirt and gravel road heading south into the desert, right smack on the hard turn near the entrance to the community. How many have ever followed that desert track? If you had, you’d have come near to La Cholla Mountain in the Dome Rock range. And there, my gold-loving friends, is the site up at auction next month.

The US Bankruptcy Court has declared 79 mining claims be auctioned off to the highest bidder. And yep, there really is gold in them thar Dome Rock hills. According to assay work, you can–in  some places around the 1,000 acre site, pull some .18 ounces of gold out of a ton of muck, gravel, and other material. To some of us, that sounds like a particularly difficult way to make a living, but somebody must feel the results are worth the effort. At present auctioneers Sheldon, Good, and Company say they have a standing bid for the claims to the tune of $625,000. Better get ready to bust open that piggy bank.

The auction is a “shout it out” show, sure to be an interesting event. If you’re in the neighborhood of the Hilton Hotel in Scottsdale on July 22, you may just want to stop in to see how high the bid goes. If you want to bid, be sure to bring a certified or cashiers check for $60,000 if you’re afraid you might actually win. Details are available on the auction website.
