Big storm thrashes RVs and venders — photo feature

When Monday evening’s big storm blew into Quartzsite, nobody knew just what the outcome would be the next day. With sustained winds of 60+ miles per hour, and gusts said to exceed 80, the morning light was the revealer of more than one broken dream.  This vendor at Rice Ranch, had little left to show for his set up.

Happily, neither Price Albert, nor anyone else, “was in the can” behind the General Store when the big blow came through.

A new business moved into town, capitalizing on huge, pole mounted banners.  And following the storm, many of the banners had simply vanished. Others, like these outside of a building on Main Street, testify to the strength of the wind by simply bending over.

Out in the desert, RVers who weren’t prepared for the huge, unseasonable winds, found new ways to cuss the weather. This unfortunate snowbird probably has an insurance claim to file.

At a popular gathering spot for musical RVers, this man’s large seating area took a powerful mashing.

But it’s hard to beat the resiliency of many vendors. Joe and Leo take a licking, but just keep on ticking.

I was in Quartzsite during the storm. I can’t comment on it though. I slept right through it. I have a converted GM 4106 and was parked heading to the north so there was no effect on my rig. A neighbor had a Rhino (UTV) parked along side of his unit. After sun-up we found his 4 wheeler in some brush a hundred feet from where it was parked. The moral of this story is to set the parking brake.
